On January 5th, 2011, we took Henry to get his palate fixed at Emanuel Hospital. Grandma and Grandpa stayed with you, while we took Henry in. We had to be there really early.
Post surgery, he was bloody. But, he had the roof of his mouth!
It was a long night, but luckily we only stayed one night. Then came home.
Looking back, he was so pale. But, his palate surgery was successful, and we assumed the worse was behind us.
Over the next few weeks, we went back to the doctors many times. His new palate developed a hole in it, which we were told could be fixed in a year. We were told that happened to a few kids after such a large repair. What we didn't know then, was that because he had cancer, his palate couldn't heal appropriately. We took Henry to the doctor because he was tired, and were told it was because he just had surgery. We took him in because he was pale, and were told it was because it was January in Oregon, where the sun didn't shine. We knew something was not right, but didn't know what. What we didn't know, was that he had leukemia.
